I WOULD like to agree with Claire Doyle, who wrote a letter in the Journal about the 244 new homes being built on the Mosley Common/Astley border.
I live in Astley and work six miles away in Eccles/Salford.
Like many other commuters, I cannot use the guided busway to get to work.
This six-mile journey regularly takes me an hour.
Before any new homes are given planning permission, I would challenge any planning officer to join me on my morning commute to see what we already face without adding another 500-plus commuters to the extremely congested roads.
My route to work is either via the East Lancs Road or the motorway at Worsley.
Getting to Worsley through Boothstown is a nightmare and I understand hundreds of new houses are also being built in Boothtown, which is going to make the journey even worse again.
Instead of short-sightedly just thinking of all the lovely council tax Wigan Council is going to collect from these new homes, please give some consideration to the people who already live here and try to get to work each day.
