REGARDING heavy traffic in Atherton, I live on Mealhouse Lane and it is like a highway at peak times.

Noise, vibrations, air quality and safety are all issues.

The resident who complained about Hamilton Street in the Journal should spend a day living on my road.

There are no traffic calming bumps and speed restrictions are not adhered to, especially at night.

Motorists’ speed exceeds the normal urban limit, let alone 20mph.

The bus service along with commercial traffic are far more than this road was designed for.

There are three main roads through Atherton and all of them should be taking an amount equal of traffic.

Hamilton Street and Gloucester Street are not utilised as much as Mealhouse Lane.

The fact that schools are on Hamilton Street should only be an issue twice a day.

In between this road should be available to transport.

Mealhouse Lane has a care home and sheltered accommodation requiring assisted crossing points.

This does not seem to have had much bearing on the traffic limitations in place to date.

I hope that with all the planned residential and commercial building imminent in Atherton Mr Tilly and Wigan planners look very carefully at all the access roads’ usage through our town and that more bypass ones are built.
