I AM a man from Tyldesley who became disabled 20 years ago after two major spinal operations.

I now get around very slowly on two walking sticks.

Some time ago I purchased a small mobility scooter, which I can put in the back of the car when we go out.

I sometimes use it when I go to shops, but it is now becoming impossible to use due to vehicles parking on pavements.

This situation also applies to people pushing prams and buggies.

Often cars are parked right up to garden walls.

A few months ago I had to help a blind man who had walked into the back of a car parked up to a garden wall on a pavement. He was trying to get round it but couldn’t.

I asked if I could help him and told him he had walked into a car.

He said: “Is it a big car?”

I told him it wasn’t. The problem was that three cars were parked nose to tail against the garden wall.

He asked: “What are the powers that be doing about it?”

I couldn’t answer that.

I helped him with getting round the cars and he went on his way.

I am left asking what are the pavements for at the side of roads?

It appears that the police and council are not willing to do anything about this situation, so can the leader of the council give us some advice about taking small mobility scooters and prams and baby buggies onto the roads?

What if we get hit by a vehicle?

I think this needs urgent attention before someone is killed.
