I AM sure that I am not the only one thinking that the North Stand at Leigh Sports Village Stadium should be named “The Tommy Sale Stand”, preferably in big letters for all to see.
It would be a wholly appropriate gesture to a man so well regarded for his dedication and efforts over so many years.
As reported in the Journal, the recent decision that he should finally step down in his role as club timekeeper at Leigh Centurions provides the perfect opportunity to renew the fitting tribute instigated so effectively in the last few years at Hilton Park.
In due course, funding could also be sought for a sculpture or statue akin to that at the Halliwell Jones Stadium in tribute to Brian Bevan.
I would suggest that, in deference to how most of us remember Tommy over recent decades, it should be in the style of The Man, the Hat.
