SPINNING Gate shopping centre is planning weeks of festive fun as its huge Christmas tree has lit up the centre.

Following Leigh's Christmas lights switch on and light parade last weekend, which attracted thousands of residents, the town's shopping centre is getting residents in the festive spirit.

With a huge Christmas tree and twinkling decorations lighting up the centre, there will be a variety of events in the lead-up to Christmas.

Hoping to provide something for everyone, this will include free Santa visits, 12 days of Christmas giveaways, family festive entertainment, charity gift wrapping service, charity toy appeal and carol singing performances.

Families can experience a visit to Santa for free from Thursdays to Sundays in December.

For the Christmas giveaways, a shopper will be selected at random during the first 12 days of December and presented with a present to spread some Christmas cheer as a thank you for shopping in the centre.

There will also be free festive entertainment every Saturday in December, including Spinning Gate's very own Grinch and Willy Wonka, a contact ball juggler, along with gingerbread characters handing out free chocolates and mini gingerbread to shoppers.

The centre has also planned a Christmas charity gift wrapping service where shoppers can have their Christmas gifts wrapped for a donation to local charity Compassion in Action.

The centre is supporting the Christmas charity toy appeal, where all new toys and gifts are distributed to local families in need by the charity, with drop off points for donations at Costa Coffee and Nationwide.

In addition to all of this, local choirs will be carol singing in the mall, adding to the Christmas atmosphere for shoppers.
